World Vision joined NGO Samaritan's Purse to air-lift essential donated medical supplies in the last week of August

Following ten days of torrential rain, DPRK (North Korea) is experiencing its most serious humanitarian crisis in over a decade, affecting up to 300,000 people and flooding prime rice production areas.

According to North Korean information sources hundreds of people are either missing or dead, at least 800 public buildings, 540 bridges and 70 sections of railway have also been destroyed. More than 11 percent of paddy and maize fields have been submerged, buried or swept away.

One of the provinces most seriously affected is North Hwanghae, designated by the DPRK government as a WVI Humanitarian Zone. The province, south of the capital, has had pumping stations, agricultural structures and waterways destroyed.

As a partner agency providing development to DPRK, World Vision is poised for relief efforts, including distributions, provision of medical supplies and assistance to rebuild infrastructure.
