On 27 May 2006, an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Java near Yogyakarta. The massive impact took over 6,000 lives and left up to 200,000 homeless. Damage to property and infrastructure was devastating.

Since then, World Vision has been working with the communities of Yogyakarta, initially to deliver relief supplies, shelter and child protection, then to assist with the rebuilding of properties, facilities and lives.
