“I became a friend to World Vision to build a world without HIV and AIDS” says Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) about his ambassador role with World Vision Korea

Fans of Korean superstar musician and dancer Rain are flocking to his latest sell-out concert tour across Asia.
This time, they won’t just be treated to the music and dance spectaculars he is famous for. As HIV and AIDS Ambassador for World Vision Korea, Rain will be giving them a better understanding of HIV, its effect on children and what they can do to help.
One of Asia’s favourite artists, and increasingly well-known in US music markets, Rain wanted to do something to respond to the growing HIV and AIDS emergencies worldwide.
“I agreed to take up this challenge because I heard about the AIDS reality - 8,000 children are orphaned by AIDS everyday and over 14 million children have lost parents to AIDS every year. The devastation caused by the HIV epidemic in Africa during the 1990s could be revived here in Asia soon unless we intervene swiftly.”
As a highlight of the show, Rain performs his new song, entitled “Friends”, against a background of children’s images. The song, about joining hands to help children affected by HIV and AIDS, was composed specifically for this purpose. World Vision staff and volunteers will be at the events in each country to sell wrist-bands and raise funds for HIV and AIDS programs.
World Vision Korea’s executive director, Dr Sam Park, is delighted with Rain’s involvement in the issues of HIV and AIDS.
“I’m confident that Rain will speak up and speak out, raising AIDS awareness during the concert tour. As the ambassador, he is able to promote messages on HIV prevention, treatment and care and appeal to join hands to help AIDS affected children, which would be a strong advocate for our increasing HIV prevention program.”
A portion of the concerts’ ticket sales will be used to support World Vision’s HIV and AIDS projects within Asia.
