Around 100 million people are reeling from the effects of blizzards and heavy snowfalls in China's coldest winter in up to a century.
Snowstorms crippled seventeen provinces and regions in late January, leaving around 100 people dead and up to 1.5 million homeless in bitterly cold conditions. With crops and livelihoods destroyed, schools, homes and roads closed, and general food, water and power shortages, many of China's poorest people will feel the effects of the storms for months to come.
World Vision was quick to respond with distributions of warm quilts to families and children in four provinces. As well, they have restored power to around 60,000 people through the donation of generators to communities blacked out since Lunar New Year.
As well as continuing to provide relief supplies with an emphasis on families, World Vision will work in many affected communities over coming months to assess damage and help restore livelihoods and infrastructure.
